My Degree Show

10 May

I had an incredibly busy weekend, I spent all day Saturday cutting, sticking and mounting samples, images and information. The following day I was in the studio painting my irregular shaped shelf and my custom made plinth. Following this I began hanging my final accessories in my degree show space as is shown below.

Over the course of the year I produced 12 final knitted accessories, a selection of roughly 30 additional knitted samples and numerous experimental pieces which were secured in development sketchbooks. I created 5 sketchbooks which included drawings, technical notes, contextual project research, test pieces, mock ups and photography as well as an A3 photography book, a photograph album and 4 cut out and collage sketchbooks. I also made 4 still life compositions from mechanical parts and knitted elements and mounted a selection of photographs and knitted pieces for my portfolio.

Work, work, work, work, work…

Yesterday I was excited to eventually get my custom made rail cut and put up on the wall! It all began with a 240cm length of mdf. I lay out a selection of my knitted accessories and got to work drawing out the design.

Not only is the rail a specific shape in order to hang 8 of my final pieces but being irregular in shape it reflects the irregular shaped accessories I have created. Now I only have to sand and paint the rail, source a plinth, sand and paint the plinth, hang my pieces, mount some photographs and set up the display on the plinth…. by 9pm on Tuesday!

It is actually almost here… Degree Show 2012!

30 Apr

I am currently working very long hours day in day out to get everything finished in time for  my assessment which is just over a week away! For more information about my upcoming degree show at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee please have a look at the following webpage: http://www.dundee.ac.uk/djcad/degreeshow/studentsexhibiting/textiledesign/samanthacleminson/

Last week I had my first ever fashion photo shoot which I found quite challenging, as I normally capture still life compositions and take landscape photographs whilst walking in the Lake District. Below are a few photographs which show two of the pieces from my degree show collection.
