In Recent Weeks

18 May

Unfortunately my blog has been a little neglected recently due to family illness and university deadlines. Thankfully things are less stressful now and I achieved high grades for all of my academic work this year, I also have a 2-week holiday to Icmeler in Turkey to look forward to.

In response to a post in February entitled ‘Good News!’ I have since been on a site visit and met the architect, David Wren, who is working on the new golf clubhouse in Carnoustie. Although I was not commissioned to produce the final wall hanging for the building due to time constraints and potential manufacturing difficulties I have been asked to create an A1 design board, which will be displayed in the building. The work I have been doing is almost complete now as the deadline is Friday so I will add some photographs of the building and the work I was involved in shortly. Working for a client for the first time has been an interesting and exciting experience.

In other news I am also pleased to have secured a 1-month part-time placement during the summer at Higham Hall, which is an adult education centre close to Cockermouth in the Lake District. I am sure it will be a lovely place to work as the building is beautiful and set in well-maintained grounds with a view of Skiddaw. During the placement I hope to gain experience in a variety of areas, In particular I am eager to be involved with some of the textile, art and craft based classes, which are available at Higham Hall and perhaps make some valuable contacts.
