The Bradford Project

20 Mar

I have only just completed and submitted this body of work for the Bradford Competition. This submission was influenced by a previous studio project where I was looking at recycled fabrics. The samples I have created were initially inspired by worn denim, I began by looking at details such as studs, zips and the stitching on garments such as jeans and denim shirts. I was particularly interested in incorporating small stitched details in to my sample and some element of pattern. Macro photographs taken of the denim as well as blue and white ceramics inspired the element of pattern. I was inspired by both denim and ceramics as both relate loosely to a blue and white colour scheme. To incorporate pattern in to my knit samples I used a range of punch cards. I also experimented with different types and weights of yarn and added small highlights of vibrant colour to some of the samples. Below is a slideshow of images from my sketchbook and photographs of my final presentation boards.
