Self-Motivated Project

20 Mar

For the following 6 weeks and as my last project of 3rd year we have been asked to create a self-motivated body of work, what inspires the work is entirely our choice. I aim to use this project as a starting point for 4th year and have therefore been thinking about the direction I would like my future work to take.

In some of my more recent projects at university I have been exploring stitch and collage. This is currently something I intend to develop further over the course of my final year at Duncan of Jordanstone Collage of Art and Design. The next few posts are going to be about some artists, designers and illustrators who I have come across whilst carrying out online research.

As well as developing mixed media pieces in my sketchbook I also hope to relate my degree show to nature, as this is something, which has always interested me and heavily influenced a lot of my design work. In the past I have been inspired by long walks in the countryside, flower shows such as the RHS Show at Tatton Park, trips to Edinburgh and Dundee botanic gardens and simply sitting in the garden. I love vibrant, bold colour, intricate pattern and lots of surface detail and texture. Perhaps some of these elements will be present in my degree show in 2012.
